Water

Water PondWater is an increasingly precious resource.  Less water is available for farming because of increased business and public demand, water policies, and climate fluctuations.  Water use also is expensive.  Each gallon used by your vineyard or winery has an embodied expenditure of energy from pumping, treatment, and/or redistribution.  About 20% of energy consumed in California relates to water, so reducing use saves energy and money, reduces emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, and reduces reliance on constrained supplies.  Use the calculator to quantify and track the efficiency of water use for your vineyard or winery.  Understandings from collecting data, generating results, and the educational information can be used to establish and communicate improvement plans and goals.
